FC Barcelona superstar Andres Iniesta couldn’t have asked for a better coach, or location, for his first golf lesson as the Costa Smeralda Invitational showcased the stunning Pevero Golf Club and the chic corner of northern Sardinia on June 27.

The Spanish midfielder took tips from world golf No.4, tournament host and Hublot ambassador Justin Rose on the range at the Robert Trent Jones Snr-designed course before the sporting heavyweights engaged in putting and football juggling competitions.

Bobsleigh legend Alexander Zubkov, the Russian flag bearer and winner of two gold medals at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, also enjoyed his very first golf experience at the new charity tournament and his one-on-one time with Rose clearly worked despite a language barrier; Zubkov’s third shot landed close to the pin on Pevero GC’s stunning 164-metre par 3 10th hole.

A glittering cast of stars from the world of sports and entertainment enjoyed the tournament which raised important funds for children’s’ Charities Autism Rocks and UNICEF Road to Awareness.

Along with European Solheim Cup captain Carin Koch, Rose later played holes with football superstars Gianfranco Zola, Roberto Di Matteo, Ronald de Boer, Dwight Yorke and Les Ferdinand, cricket gods Kapil Dev and Brian Lara and double Olympic Games gold medalist Edwin Moses in the 18-hole team stableford event. Scottish actor Dougray Scott, of Mission Impossible II and Taken 3 fame, and television stars Denise van Outen (England), Rannvijay Singh (India) and Federica Fontana (Italy) also enjoyed the spectacular setting and course.

The celebrities, who captained VIPs and business leaders in the teams’ competition, competed for the honour of being the inaugural Costa Smeralda Invitational champion. Kapil Dev and Sky News sports presenter Sarah-Jane Mee took the men’s and women’s titles with 37 and 23 stableford points respectively and will be presented with the champions’ Blue Jackets by Rose at the event’s glitzy Gala Dinner at Hotel Cala di Volpe this evening.

“It’s been a real honour to host the inaugural Costa Smeralda Invitational and to run shoulders with so many icons of sports and entertainment, many of whom inspired me as a youngster,” said Rose.

“Pevero Golf Club is truly stunning with some amazing views out over the Med. It was also great fun introducing Andres and Alexander to the game…they both took it quickly and hopefully this little taste might inspire them to take up the game.”
