Less than three weeks after fending off the likes of Ronaldhino and Berbatov as England goalkeeper in the Soccer Aid football match at Old Trafford, TV personality Jamie Theakston will try his luck at golf when he plays in the star-studded Costa Smeralda Invitational in Sardinia.

The Costa Smeralda Invitational – which takes place at Pevero Golf Club on June 25 – will see 18 big names from the world of sports and entertainment coming together to raise money for the ‘Road to Awareness’ campaign in aid of UNICEF – with former Top of the Pops presenter Theakston the latest to sign up.

The famous radio DJ will take his love for golf over to the beautiful island of Sardinia, where he will be met by tournament host, Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke, along with other competing celebrities like Dougray Scott and James Nesbitt, plus football legends Alessandro Del Piero and Gianfranco Zola.

Ahead of the tournament, Theakston will look to learn a thing or two from former Open champion Clarke, who’ll lead an interactive clinic at Pevero Golf Club. A number of fun challenges geared solely to fundraising will then take place on the course, including a ‘Beat the Pro’ contest with Clarke. Meanwhile, on the more competitive side, Theakston and fellow competitors will be able to call on a detailed course guide compiled by last year’s winner, Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, the Costa Smeralda Invitational winner will be presented with the coveted Blue Jacket at a glitzy evening Gala Dinner.

Last year, the inaugural Costa Smeralda Invitational – which was hosted by Major champion Justin Rose – raised more than £100,000 for the children’s charities Autism Rocks and the Road to Awareness campaign in aid of UNICEF. This year, the Costa Smeralda Invitational is proud to support the Road to Awareness campaign in aid of UNICEF, with all money raised going towards UNICEF’s vital water, sanitation and hygiene programmes.
