With this year’s Strictly Come Dancing series less than three months away, two of the show’s most popular dancers of all time are now preparing for a different type of success – married couple James and Ola Jordan will be golfing instead of waltzing at the Costa Smeralda Invitational in Sardinia.
As former Strictly competitors, Polish beauty Ola – who won the 2009 title with Chris Hollins – and English husband James will be interested spectators at this year’s BBC-televised dancing contest, but in the meantime they’ll be teaming up with a host of other big names in the world of sports and entertainment on June 25 at Pevero Golf Club to raise money for charity.
While the tango and the foxtrot may not help the famous couple on the greens and fairways in Sardinia, they will benefit from some coaching from event host and European Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke, who’ll be leading an interactive clinic shortly before the tournament starts.
As well as Clarke, Ola and James will be joined by 16 other celebrity stars at this year’s Costa Smeralda Invitational, including actors Dougray Scott and James Nesbitt, DJ Jamie Theakston, former footballers Alessandro Del Piero and Gianfranco Zola, and last year’s winner, Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev.
The star-studded event will raise money for the Road to Awareness campaign in aid of UNICEF through a number of different fun challenges planned for the tournament, including a ‘Beat the Pro’ contest with former Open Champion Clarke. The former Strictly pair will be one of the main attractions in the evening when all of the tournament competitors attend a glitzy Gala Dinner.
Last year’s Costa Smeralda – hosted by Justin Rose – raised over £100,000 for the children’s charities Autism Rocks and Road to Awareness in aid of UNICEF. This year the Costa Smeralda Invitational is proud to support the Road to Awareness campaign in aid of UNICEF, with all money raised going towards UNICEF’s vital water, sanitation and hygiene programmes.
